Motorcyclist Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash

Raceland, LA – Shortly before 3:30 a.m. this morning, Troopers from Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality involving a motorcycle on LA 308 near Acorn Lane in Raceland. The crash claimed the life of 44 year old Ross Callais of Thibodaux, LA.

The preliminary investigation revealed Callais was traveling north on LA 308 on a 2015 Harley Davidson when he entered a left hand curve in the roadway. For unknown reasons, Callais traveled off of the highway and struck a tree. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Callais was pronounced deceased by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and drug use is unknown at this time and standard toxicology reports are pending.

Troopers would like to remind motorists to be aware of your surroundings when traveling on the road. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US DOT approved helmet when riding their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts can decrease your risk of serious injury or death.
