TROOP C NEWS RELEASE October 13, 2016 Speed Suspected as a Factor in Fatal Crash Involving a Motorcyclist Houma, LA – Shortly after 7:00 am this morning, Troopers from Troop C responded to a single vehicle fatality crash involving a motorcyclist on Valhi Drive near Equity Blvd. The crash took the life of 48 year old Dwayne McClanahan of Houma, LA. The preliminary investigation revealed McClanahan was operating a 2015 Harley Davidson southbound on Valhi Drive at a high rate of speed. He entered a slight curve to the right and for unknown reasons, crossed the center line. McClanahan crossed the northbound lane and ran off of the road where he was ejected from the motorcycle. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and drug use is unknown, but standard toxicology tests are pending. McClanahan was wearing a DOT approved motorcycle helmet. Troopers urge motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels to take extra precautions while riding and ensure that they are properly prepared and trained for a variety of riding conditions. Through participation in certified training programs, riders are educated on safe riding practices such as being visible, dressing for safety, applying effective riding strategies, and knowing the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycle. Motorcyclists are taught how to apply these safety practices to not only avoid being involved in a crash but to greatly reduce the chance of injury should a crash occur. Contact Information: | |||
