TROOP C NEWS RELEASE 10/13/2016 Troop C Plans DWI Enforcement using the New Mobile Breath Alcohol Testing Unit This Weekend in Terrebonne Parish Houma, LA – With the unveiling of the new Mobile Breath Alcohol Testing vehicle by the South Central Regional Safety Coalition earlier this week, Troopers plan to be on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend in Terrebonne Parish. They will be teaming up with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Houma Police Department in an effort to get drunk and drugged drivers off of our roadways. In the past, Troopers and law enforcement agencies were generally held to specific locations to conduct DWI checkpoints due to having the necessary equipment and lighting. This first of its kind vehicle provides officers the ability to go to the areas where the highest amount of impaired driving crashes and arrests are made. The Breath Alcohol Testing Unit, also known as the BAT mobile, can be driven to the target areas and officers will be able to test suspected impaired drivers on scene instead of driving them to a State Police Troop, police department, or jail to administer the test(s). This will enable to the Troopers, Deputies, and Officers to be more efficient in the time it takes to complete an arrest. This reduction in time will allow the officers to get back to their areas quicker to continue patrol. We will be conducting a saturation detail this Friday October 14th in Terrebonne Parish. Troopers will be out patrolling our roadways looking for impaired drivers rather than standing at a checkpoint waiting for impaired drivers to come to them. The BAT mobile will be parked in a central location and the officers will transport their impaired drivers there for testing. This unit is available to law enforcement agencies involved with the South Central Regional Safety Coalition in the Troop C and Troop B area. Be sure to keep an eye out for this vehicle in your area soon! Contact Information: | |||
