| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE May 30, 2017 Houma Man Killed in Early Morning Crash Houma – At approximately 5:30 this morning, Troopers from Troop C were notified of a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 182 near Sugar Ridge Drive. The crash took the life of 52 year old Ricky Bergeron of Houma. The preliminary investigation revealed Bergeron was traveling east on LA 182 in a 2002 Dodge Durango. For reasons still under investigation, Bergeron crossed the center line and ran off of the roadway to the left. His vehicle then struck a tree and Bergeron suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending. Bergeron was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Although the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of making safe driving decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, and fatigued driving continue to be factors in preventable crashes. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troopers want to remind you that Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.
