| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE April 19, 2017 Houma Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash Terrebonne Parish, LA – On April 19, 2017, shortly before 7:15 am, Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified of a single vehicle fatality crash on Valhi Blvd, south of Savanne Road, in Terrebonne Parish. The crash claimed the life of 21 year old Nicholas Braud of Houma, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed, Braud was operating a 2003 Nissan truck northbound on Valhi Blvd and failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off the right side of the road. Braud overcorrected causing the vehicle to travel off of the left side of the roadway, overturn, and come to rest on its roof in a drainage ditch. Braud sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers were unable to determine if Braud was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It is unknown if impairment was a contributing factor, but standard toxicology results were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind the public of the following: inattentive and distracted driving is dangerous and is a leading cause of crashes in our state. It is important for motorists to pay attention to what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving. More information on distracted driving may be found online at the federal government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov.
