| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE May 21, 2017 Two Teens Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash Kraemer – Shortly before 12:30 this morning, Troopers from Troop C were advised of a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 307 near Scotty J’s Arena Rd. The crash took the life of 19 year old Jaydon Labat of Thibodaux and his passenger, 18 year old Candace Reulet of Vacherie. The preliminary investigation revealed Labat was traveling south on LA 307 in a 2010 Dodge Challenger at a high rate of speed. Labat entered a left curve in the roadway when for unknown reasons, ran off of the road to the right and struck a utility pole. Due to the severity of the crash, Labat was ejected despite being properly restrained. Reulet was not restrained and she was also ejected. Both suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor, but standard toxicology test are pending on the part of Labat. Although the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge drivers and occupants to have a plan in place when consuming alcohol to make sure someone does not drive impaired. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.
