TROOP C NEWS RELEASE February 13, 2017 Impairment Suspected in Fatal Montegut Crash Montegut, LA – Shortly before 9:30 last night, Troopers from Troop C were notified of a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 55 near Susan Court. The crash took the life of 40 year old Leslie Hendon of Montegut. The preliminary investigation revealed Hendon was traveling north on LA 55 in a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. Hendon entered a right curve in the roadway when for unknown reasons, crossed the centerline and ran off of the road to the left. Her vehicle struck a tree and rolled over on the embankment of the roadway. Hendon was partially ejected as a result of the roll over and she sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash and standard toxicology tests are pending. Hendon was restrained at the time of the crash. Troopers want to remind motorists that alcohol and drugs can have many effects on the body. They can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Also, the proper wearing of your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
