The crash took the life of 51 year old Lee Matherne of Raceland. The preliminary investigation revealed 31 year old Chad Lee of Cut Off, LA was traveling south on LA 1 in a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado. Matherne was walking northbound on LA 1 near the southbound lane and was struck by Lee’s vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s office. Lee was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash. Lee showed signs of impairment on scene and was placed under arrest. He submitted a breath sample for alcohol testing which showed him to be over the legal limit. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor on the part of Matherne, but standard toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind drivers that impaired driving continues to be a problem throughout Louisiana. Drivers need to make the responsible decision not to drive prior to consuming alcohol. Family members and friends can also help avoid tragedies like this by not allowing impaired drivers to get on the road.
