| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE July 2, 2017 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash Thibodaux – Shortly after 6:00 p.m., Troop C was notified of a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 304 near Daylily Lane. The crash took the life of 21 year old Seth Bourgeois of Thibodaux, LA. The preliminary investigation revealed Bourgeois was traveling east on LA 304 in a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado. For reasons still under investigation, Bourgeois crossed the center line of the highway and overcorrected to the right. His vehicle exited the roadway to the right and struck a ditch. Bourgeois was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected during the crash. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service. He later died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Bourgeois was an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputy and was off duty at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drug use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Although the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists about the dangers of distracted driving. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.
