TROOP C NEWS RELEASE February 17, 2017 Speed and Lack of Seat Belt Usage Contributes to Fatal Crash in Terrebonne Parish Gray, LA – Shortly after 5:30 am this morning, Troop C responded to a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 311 just south of US 90. The crash took the life of 21 year old Raymundo Coronado-Sandoval of Houma, LA. The preliminary investigation revealed Coronado was traveling south on LA 311 in a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer at a high rate of speed. Coronado entered a left curve in the roadway and for unknown reasons, ran off of the roadway to the right. His vehicle struck several driveways which caused his vehicle to overturn. Coronado was not restrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and drug use is unknown at this time and standard toxicology tests are pending. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway. Speeding also extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle and can lead to a more serious collision in cases where the vehicle strikes another object. Troopers encourage motorists to obey the speed limit and always wear a seat belt. Contact Information: | |||
