TROOP C NEWS RELEASE August 29, 2016 Driver Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Head-On Crash Golden Meadow, LA – Shortly after 5:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers from Troop C responded to a head-on crash involving injuries on LA 1 near Celestin Drive. Both drivers, Taylor Fontenot and Dalton Creppel, sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Creppel, 38 year old of Golden Meadow, later died from his injuries. Preliminary investigation by Troopers revealed Fontenot was traveling north on LA 1 in a 2015 Ford F-250. Creppel was southbound on LA 1 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. For reasons still under investigation, Fontenot crossed the center line and struck Creppel’s vehicle head-on. Creppel was transported to Lady of the sea General Hospital where he would later succumb to his injuries. Fontenot was transferred to University Medical Center in New Orleans, LA for treatment. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Impairment is not suspected as being a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending. Troopers want to remind the public to avoid distracted driving and always buckle up. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Contact Information: | |||
