Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash on LA Hwy 22 near Diversion Canal

St. Amant Shortly before 2:45 am on May 26, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 22 east of LA Hwy 937 near the Diversion Canal in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 48 year old Lawrence M. Lambert of Holden, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Lambert was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on LA Hwy 22. For unknown reasons Lambert failed to negotiate a right hand curve and his Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the Chevy entered a ditch and struck a protection levee which caused the vehicle to flip onto its roof.

Lambert was unrestrained and he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in this crash.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use, especially during a busy Memorial Day weekend. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
