Florida Resident Killed in Lafourche Parish Head-On Crash

Houma, LA- This morning, Troopers investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 3087 in Lafourche Parish. The crash occurred shortly before 5 am and claimed the life of a Florida resident after he traveled the wrong way down the road and struck another vehicle head-on, seriously injuring another driver.

The investigation revealed that a 1995 Dodge Dakota was traveling south in the northbound lanes of LA 3087 in Lafourche Parish. The Dakota was being driven by Ronald Peltier (age 72) of Fellsmere, FL. At the same time, a 2003 Honda Pilot was traveling north on LA 3087 approaching the Dakota. The Pilot was being driven by Nam Nguyen (age 25) of Houma, LA. Nguyen was unable to avoid the crash, and the two vehicles struck head-on. Nguyen, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported by helicopter to University Medical Center in New Orleans with serious injuries. Peltier was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Seat belt usage for Peltier is still under investigation at this time.

Impairment is unknown at this time, but is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Peltier. Blood was taken from Nguyen and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
