Head-On Crash Claims the Life of a Plattenville Resident

Napoleonville, LA- Earlier this morning, Troopers investigated a fatality crash on LA 1 in Assumption Parish. The crash occurred shortly after 4 am and claimed the life of a Plattenville resident after his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle head-on.

The investigation revealed that a 2000 Saturn LS was traveling north on the LA 1 in Assumption Parish. The Saturn was being driven by Anthony Cox (B/M age 25) of Plattenville, LA. For unknown reasons, as the Saturn entered a right curve on LA 1 it crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane. At the same time, a 2009 GMC street sweeper was traveling south on LA 1 entering the same curve. The GMC was being driven by Joseph Castle (B/M age 47) of Thibodaux, LA. Castle was unable to avoid the crash, and the two vehicles struck head-on. Cox, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. Castle, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Terrebonne Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from both drivers and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
