Head-On Crash Claims the Life of a Larose Resident

Larose, LA- Earlier this morning, Troopers investigated a fatality crash on LA 308 in Lafourche Parish. The crash occurred shortly after 6 am and claimed the life of a Larose resident.

The investigation revealed that a 2005 Buick Le Sabre was traveling north on the LA 308 Larose Overpass in Lafourche Parish. The Buick was being driven by Eugenie Defelice (W/F age 84) of Larose, LA. For unknown reasons, the Buick crossed the center line of LA 308 and entered the southbound lane. At the same time, a 1994 Peterbuilt Dump Truck was traveling south on the LA 308 Larose Overpass. The Peterbuilt was being driven by Willie Bonvillain (B/M age 36) of Houma, LA. Bonvillain attempted to avoid the crash, but the two vehicles struck head-on in the southbound lane of LA 308. Defelice, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Oschner St. Anne Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Bonvillain, who was wearing a seat belt, refused medical treatment.


Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Bonvillain submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Defelice. This crash remains under investigation.


While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.



Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
