TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE October 5, 2015 Unrestrained Driver Ejected and Killed in Assumption Parish Crash Plattenville, LA- Troopers investigated a fatality crash on LA 403 in Assumption Parish today. The crash occurred shortly before noon and claimed the life of a 63 year old Napoleonville resident after she was ejected from her vehicle. The investigation revealed that a 1996 Grand Marquis was traveling south on LA 403, near mailbox number 645. The Marquis was being driven by Thelma Rainey (age 63) of Napoleonville, LA. The Marquis had just exited a left curve in the road, when for unknown reasons, the driver turned her vehicle sharply to the right. The Marquis exited the road and entered a ditch, where it overturned. Rainey, who was not properly restrained, was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Rainey was the only occupant inside the vehicle during the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
