Unrestrained Driver Killed in Terrebonne Parish Crash

Montegut, LA- Shortly after 7 pm yesterday evening, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatality crash that claimed the life of a 30 year old Chauvin man on LA 665 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2004 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA 665 around mailbox number 1236 in Pointe Aux Chenes community. The Sierra was being driven by Marvin Naquin (W/M age 30) of Chauvin, LA. The Sierra failed to negotiate a left curve on LA 665 and traveled onto the right shoulder of the roadway. Naquin overcorrected back to the left and crossed both lanes of LA 665, causing the Sierra to rotate as it traveled off the left side of the roadway. As the Sierra exited the roadway it entered a small canal where it rolled onto its roof and became partially submerged. Naquin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Chabert Medical Center, but later died from his injuries sustained in the crash.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash, and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
