Helping Dreams Come True in the Troop C Community!

In September of 1989, the Troop C Trooper's Association adopted the Troop C Grant-A-Wish Program. The Grant-A-Wish Program enables children with a life-altering or life-threatening illness, who reside in the Troop C community, to fulfill a wish they would not otherwise be financially able to fulfill. The wishes have ranged from meeting their favorite singer or hero to Disney World vacations.

The latest wish was granted to Taylor Cannel, an 18 year old from the Houma area who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008. Taylor just graduated from South Terrebonne High School and will be attending Nicholls State University in the Fall. Taylor's major love is anything to do with hunting and fishing, and thankfully he is still able to do those things. When asked what he would like as his wish, he simply wished for a Cabela's shopping spree. At the annual Grant-A-Wish banquet last year, Taylor was told to pick any Cabela's store location he wanted to go to. Taylor chose to visit the Cabela’s store in Alaska. After working with the Alaska Cabela's marketing manager, Carri Ann Pratt, Grant-A-Wish was able to set up an amazing itinerary for Taylor and his family which included 2 charter fishing trips, a bear viewing trip, a private tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation center, and of course a full day of surprises at Cabela's. Taylor was very appreciative and thankful for the opportunity to experience this Alaskan adventure. Special thanks to the following people/companies for their generosity in helping to make Taylor's wish come true:
Cabela's Alaska
Carri Ann Pratt, Cabela's Marketing Manager (wish would not have been possible without her)
Hotel Captain Cook
Ninilchik Charters and Cabela's Pro-Staff Mike Flores
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
Artic Air Academy
Butch and Jehn Ehmann with Ehmann Outdoors
Regal Air

The Troop C Grant-A-Wish Program is funded through private donations, annual fund-raisers, and by a Corporate Sponsorship Program. The Program is also very proud to be partnered with several civic organizations in the Troop C area. The Troop C community includes Assumption, Lafourche, and Terrebonne Parishes, and St. James and St. John the Baptist Parishes on the west side of the Mississippi River.

The program is open to children up to the age of 18 who have a life-altering or life-threatening illness which has been diagnosed by a doctor. Wishes are granted on a case-by-case basis after careful consultation between the Grant-A-Wish Board of Directors, the child's family, and the treating physician.

If you know a child that you would like to see their wish granted or if you would like to donate towards a wish, please visit our new Grant-A-Wish web site at http://www.tcgaw.com/ or contact Troop C at (985) 857-3680. The next sponsor event will be the Annual Troop C Grant-A-Wish Golf Tournament being held at Ellendale Country Club on October 12, 2015.
