Head-On Crash Claims the Lives of Two Vacherie Residents |
TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE September 9, 2015
Head-On Crash Claims the Lives of Two Vacherie Residents Vacherie, LA- Earlier today, Troopers investigated a double fatality crash on LA 20 in St. James Parish. The crash occurred shortly before 11 am and claimed the lives of two Vacherie residents.
The investigation revealed that a 2007 Pontiac G6 was traveling east on LA 20 in St. James Parish near the Lafourche Parish line. The Pontiac was being driven by Nicole Hebert (age 40) of Vacherie, LA. For unknown reasons, the Pontiac crossed the center line of LA 20 as it crested the Bayou Chevreuil Bridge. When the Pontiac entered the westbound lane, it struck a 2015 Kia Optima head-on. The Kia was being driven by Mitzi Oubre (age 45) of Vacherie, LA. Hebert, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Oubre, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown at this time. Routine toxicology tests are pending for both drivers. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of driving while tired or sleepy. A tired driver is just as dangerous as an impaired driver when traveling on the roadways. Make sure you pull off the road and wake up before getting back on the road. Never try and “make it” to your destination when you feel drowsy, no matter how far it is. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
