Lack of Seat Belt is Factor in Assumption Parish Fatal Crash

Assumption Parish – Yesterday shortly before 5:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified of a fatal crash on LA 308, just north of Napoleonville. The crash claimed the life of 58 year-old, Cheryl Hebert of Paincourtville, LA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Hebert was driving a 2005 Toyota 4Runner south on LA 308. Katie Landry (age 25) of Pierre Part, LA was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe north on LA 308 and for unknown reasons, the Tahoe crossed the center line and struck the Toyota. Hebert was pronounced dead on the scene. Landry was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries. Neither Landry nor Hebert were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. There were two passengers in the Toyota, both of which were transported to a local facility with minor injuries.

Impairment is unknown and toxicology results are pending for Landry. The crash remains under investigation and criminal charges are pending.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
Buckle Up Louisiana!! It’s the LAW!
