Off Duty Officer and Two Good Samaritans save a Houma Man
From Drowning After Crashing into a Bayou

Vacherie, LA – Shortly before 6:00 p.m. yesterday evening, Troopers from Troop C responded to a crash on LA 20 in St. James Parish after a single vehicle crashed and became submerged near the Bayou Chevreuil Bridge. Aron Jackson, 30 year old of Houma, LA, was pulled to safety by three men who witnessed the crash.

Jackson was traveling east on LA 20 when his vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, ran off of the road, entered Bayou Chevreuil, and became submerged. An off duty police officer, Robert Cannon of the Port Allen Police Department, witnessed the crash and rushed to help Jackson. Two nearby fisherman, Gabriel Rouge and Kevin Scioneaux, also went to aid Jackson. Officer Cannon was able to remove Jackson from his vehicle while Rouge and Scioneaux provided a life jacket and kayak to float Jackson to safety. Jackson suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to the hospital.

Louisiana State Police are thankful for the efforts of Officer Cannon, Mr. Rouge, and Mr. Scioneaux. Their quick action and willingness to help prevented this crash from becoming a tragedy.
