TROOP C NEWS RELEASE August 12, 2016 Teen Passenger Succumbs to Injuries in Single Vehicle Crash Bourg, LA – Shortly before 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2016, Troopers from Troop C responded to a single vehicle crash involving serious injuries on LA 24 in Bourg, LA. The passenger in the vehicle, 16 year old Andre Verdin of Bourg, sustained serious injuries. Verdin ultimately succumbed to those injuries on Wednesday, August 10th. Preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Toyota Tundra was being driven westbound on LA 24 by 18 year old Bourg resident Louis Blanchard. Blanchard exited a left curve in the roadway when his vehicle ran off of the road and struck a tree on the passenger door. Blanchard sustained minor injuries and was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma. Verdin sustained serious injuries, and was also transported to Terrebonne General. He was later transferred to University Medical Center in New Orleans for further treatment. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt during the crash. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash; however, a blood sample was obtained from Blanchard and standard toxicology tests are pending. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
