Single Vehicle Crash Kills One In Lafourche Parish

Bayou Blue – Shortly after 12:30 pm on March 12 2016, Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 316 near Silver Street. The crash took the life of 47 year old Rickie Brumfield of Houma, LA.

The initial investigation revealed that Brumfield was traveling south on LA 316 in a 2007 Ford F-150. For unknown reasons, Brumfield crossed the center line and the northbound lane. He ran off of the road to the left where he hit a mailbox and a drainage culvert. Brumfield received severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time but standard toxicology results are pending. Brumfield was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.
