| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE April 3, 2016 Motorcycle Operator Killed in Single Vehicle Crash Schriever, LA – Shortly after 10:30 am this morning, Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 24 South near the Lost Bridge. The crash took the life of 68 year old Ralph Jouclas of Thibodaux, LA. The initial investigation revealed that Jouclas was traveling south on LA 24 South in the right lane. He began to change into the left lane and almost struck a vehicle in the left lane. He accelerated to create distance from that vehicle when he lost control of his motorcycle. Jouclas ran off of the road to the left and struck a drainage culvert. He was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. Jouclas was pronounced deceased by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is unknown at this time but standard toxicology results are pending. Jouclas was wearing a helmet that was not DOT approved. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US DOT approved helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
