| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: July 1, 2011 Man Dies in Crash after Landing on Building Troop B – This morning, at approximately 2:20 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a crash with injury on US 90 (Jefferson Highway) at Betz Avenue. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1992 Honda Civic, driven by David Medrano (H/M, age 21) of New Orleans, LA, was traveling east on US 90 at a high rate of speed. The Civic veered to the left and struck the curb of the median. The Civic then veered right off the road onto Ochsner Hospital property and uprooted a street sign. At that time, the Civic began to flip and was vaulted approximately 12 feet into the air, landing upside down on a building that serves as a bus stop and machinery shed for Jefferson Parish. Medrano died on the scene. Speed is a factor in the crash and troopers suspect that fatigue may also be a factor. Alcohol is not suspected, however toxicology results are pending the outcome of the autopsy. It is unknown at this time whether or not Medrano was wearing a seatbelt and the investigation is on-going. As the holiday weekend continues, troopers would like to remind motorists to ensure that everyone in the vehicle is buckled at all times. Do not get behind the wheel if you feel fatigued; if you find yourself fatigued while driving, park in a well-lit area and take a break and/or switch drivers.
