Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: July 21, 2011 **UPDATE** New York Man Charged in Fatal Crash On Wednesday, July 20, 2011, Michael H. Demelio was booked into the St. Bernard Parish Jail and charged with Vehicular Homicide. Vehicle Crash in St. Bernard Parish Claims One Life Troop B – On Thursday, April 28, 2011 at approximately 2:10 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a serious injury crash on LA 46 east near Livaccari Drive. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 GMC Sierra, driven by Michael H. Demelio (W/M, age 23) of Brooklyn, New York, was traveling east on LA 46 and, for unknown reasons, attempted to pass a vehicle on the right shoulder. The right shoulder began to narrow and the GMC failed to re-enter the roadway and struck a tree just beyond the shoulder. There was a front seat passenger, John Ebanks Jr. (W/M, age 43) of Garyville, LA, who sustained critical injuries during the crash. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, and passenger were transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center. Neither Demelio nor Ebanks were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is suspected as a factor of the crash and blood test results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Demelio was arrested for DWI and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. On Saturday, April 30, 2011, Troop B was notified that John Ebanks Jr, died as a result of his injuries.
