LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent Troop B - NEWS RELEASE August 20, 2011 Crash at Base of Huey P. Long Bridge Closed Roads for Hours Troop B- Yesterday evening, at approximately 4:45 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B and the Hazardous Materials Unit responded to a crash on US 90 east at the base of the Huey P. Long Bridge. Upon arrival on the scene, troopers learned that an 18-wheeler had overturned on its right side in a curve after exiting the bridge. The 18-wheeler was transporting a dangerous chemical called Tetrabutylin Chloride. After inspection of the trailer, troopers trained in hazardous materials determined that the chemical was not leaking. The following roads were closed during the inspection and removal of the 18-wheeler: US 90 east at the Huey P. Long Bridge and Jefferson Highway west was diverted to St. George St. All of the roads were re-opened at 11:30 PM. The 18-wheeler and chemicals were safely removed from the scene.
