TROOP A NEWS RELEASE June 7, 2014 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Pointe Coupee Parish Fatal Crash Glynn – Shortly before 9:45 pm on June 6, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 416 west of LA Hwy 415 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 22 year old Justin P. Thompson of Baton Rouge. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Thompson was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on LA Hwy 416. For unknown reasons Thompson failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and his Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway the Tahoe rolled several times. Thompson was unrestrained and he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Driver impairment is not suspected; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Thompson and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Contact Information: | |||
