Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash in St. Charles Parish Troop B – This morning, shortly after 10:00AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a single vehicle crash on US 90 east at Melonie Street in St. Charles Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Cheryl Clay (W/F, age 52) of Norco, LA, was traveling east on US 90 in the right lane and for unknown reasons, the Lincoln drifted off of the roadway and struck a tree. EMS rendered medical attention to Clay however, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Clay was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected. Toxicology results are pending the outcome of an autopsy. The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve impaired drivers and/or occupants not wearing seat belts. Troopers would like to remind motorists and passengers of the importance of being properly restrained at all times in every seating position in the vehicle. The simple task of buckling up saves lives…not only the lives of those who decide to buckle up, but the lives of everyone in the vehicle. During a violent crash, occupants in vehicles are safest when properly restrained. Being properly restrained at all times ensures that occupants will not become deadly projectiles inside of the vehicle. Being properly restrained also keeps occupants from being ejected from vehicles. BUCKLE UP…SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!! Contact Information: Trooper Melissa Matey | |||
