Orleans Parish Woman Arrested on Bank Fraud Charges

Louisiana State Police Troopers assigned to the United States Secret Service Louisiana Electronic and Financial Crimes Task Force arrested an Orleans Parish woman, Hermisha Curtis (B/M, age 20) yesterday on charges of Bank Fraud, Attempted Identity Theft and Possession of Fraudulent Documents for ID Purposes.

The investigation began in late December 2011, when a Georgia resident had items (driver’s license and credit cards) stolen from her in the French Quarter. Almost immediately, fraudulent charges began appearing on the credit cards totaling over $4,000.00. Detectives then received information that the arrested subject was attempting to withdraw funds from the victim’s checking account at Regions Bank, located at 1820 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. Detectives apprehended Curtis at the Regions Bank and she was booked into the Orleans Parish Central Lock-Up. This investigation is on-going.

The United States Secret Service Louisiana Electronic and Financial Crimes Task Force is comprised of federal, state and local law enforcement personnel. The common purpose of the task force is the prevention, detection, mitigation and aggressive investigation of attacks on the nation's financial and critical infrastructures. They investigate organized criminal groups involving multiple districts or transnational organizations, use of schemes involving new technology and crimes that significantly impact the economy and community. The law enforcement partnerships that are formed by these task forces allow agencies to combine personnel and more effectively combat crime.

Anyone wishing to report criminal or suspicious activity to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is urged to contact detectives at 225-925-3682.

The Louisiana State Police on-line reporting system is also available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators. Citizens can access the form by visiting www.lsp.org and clicking the Suspicious Activity link.
