Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Man Killed in Crash in St. Bernard Parish Troop B – This morning, shortly after 8:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatality crash on LA 39 east at Torres Drive in St. Bernard Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a four door Honda was traveling east on LA 39 and, for unknown reasons, the Honda left the roadway, flipped over and came to rest in a canal. The driver was identified as Eduardo Y. Gonzalez-Guzman (H/M, age 32) of St. Bernard, LA. Gonzalez-Guzman was transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center where he was later pronounced dead. Impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash and toxicology results are pending an autopsy. Gonzalez-Guzman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and there were no other occupants in the vehicle. The consequences of drinking and driving can be costly no matter how many drinks you have consumed. Driving while impaired and lack of seat belt use continue to be contributing factors in a large majority of fatal crashes across the nation. By taking precautionary steps including never driving while impaired or distracted and always wearing a seatbelt, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash.
