Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Hahnville High School Students Participate in “Consequences of Impact” Troop B –On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, students from Hahnville High School will participate in “Consequences of Impact”, a mock crash, involving impaired driving. “Consequences of Impact” will take place at ITT Technical College at 11:00 AM at 140 James Drive East, St. Rose, LA 70087, and will be performed in front of seniors from numerous area high schools from surrounding parishes. ITT Technical Institute is hosting “Senior Day” and, while helping the students with their careers and futures, an emphasis will be placed on education, traffic safety and good decision making skills. Students involved will act out a fatal crash scenario in front of their peers, allowing the students to see first-hand how impaired driving can quickly turn deadly, affecting everyone involved. Parents of the students will also be playing parts in this scenario. “Consequences of Impact” will emphasize the dangers and consequences of driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, the usage of seat belts and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal or serious injury crash occurs in reality. Numerous state and local agencies will be on hand to participate and provide their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center, Louisiana State Police, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish EMS, St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department, St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office and the New Orleans Coroner’s Office will also participate in the scenario. They will also be available to answer all of the student’s questions at the conclusion of the event. This education by participating agencies is an effort to reduce the number of crashes that are caused by impaired driving, distracted driving and lack of seat belt use. Programs, such as “Consequences of Impact”, teach our youth the importance of making sound decisions throughout the course of their lives. **All media outlets are invited to attend this event. ** Contact Information: Trooper Melissa Matey Public Affairs Unit Louisiana State Police – Troop B Office: (504) 471-2780 melissa.matey@dps.la.gov www.LSP.org | |||
