LSP Bureau of Investigations Arrests in Troop B Area

Troop B – On September 26, 2011, Louisiana State Police Troopers assigned to the Bureau of Investigations Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft Unit arrested Leroy Leonard (B/M, age 37) of Slidell, LA on charges of Possession of Stolen Property, alteration of a Vehicle Identification Number and Filing False Public Documents. The arrest stemmed from an investigation after detectives received a complaint from State Farm Insurance Company. The investigation revealed that Leonard purchased a salvaged 2007 Nissan Murano from a dealer in Minnesota. He then registered the salvaged Nissan’s VIN through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles as a reconstructed vehicle. The vehicle was later reported as stolen and recovered in Mississippi. Detectives were able to determine that the salvaged vehicle’s VIN was placed on a stolen Nissan Murano that was reported stolen in April 2008 from New Orleans. Leonard resided in St. Bernard Parish at the time the crimes occurred and an arrest warrant was obtained in St. Bernard for the above listed charges. Leonard was arrested in St. Tammany Parish and later booked into the St. Bernard Parish Jail.

On September 29, 2011, troopers assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force arrested Edmond Cannon (B/M, age 50) of New Orleans, LA on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Marijuana. Cannon was arrested following a search warrant on 521 Meyers Street, Marrero, LA where detectives recovered approximately two pounds of high grade marijuana and approximately 10 grams of cocaine. Cannon was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
