Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 GMC Sierra, driven by Michael H. Demelio (W/M, age 23) of Brooklyn, New York, was traveling east on LA 46 and, for unknown reasons, attempted to pass a vehicle on the right shoulder. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, and passenger were transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center. Neither Demelio nor Ebanks were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is suspected as a factor of the crash and blood test results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Demelio was arrested for DWI and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. On Saturday, April 30, 2011, Troop B was notified that John Ebanks Jr, died as a result of his injuries. Further criminal charges against Demelio are pending the outcome of the investigation and test results. Contact Information: | |||
