Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 24, 2010 Two New Orleans Residents Arrested for Marijuana Distribution Troop B – On November 23, 2010, Louisiana State Police Troopers assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) task force arrested two New Orleans residents for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession of a Loaded Firearm with Narcotics Present. The investigation began November 2010, when agents received information that Billie Lee Butler (B/M, age 61) was distributing marijuana in the New Orleans area. A search warrant was conducted at 8824 Birch Street, New Orleans, LA and agents seized approximately two pounds of marijuana valued at approximately $2,000.00, a loaded 38 caliber revolver and $370.00 in cash. Shawanda Martin (B/F, age 35) was also arrested on the above charges. The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program enhances and coordinates drug control efforts among local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies. The program provides agencies with coordination, equipment, technology, and additional resources to combat drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States.
