Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 28, 2011 St. Charles Parish High Schools Participate in an Impaired Driving Mock Crash for Prom Season Troop B- On Tuesday, March 29, 2011, students from Destrehan and Hahnville High Schools will participate in a Mock Crash involving impaired driving. The Mock Crash will take place at 10:00 AM at Harry Hurst Middle School, located at 170 Roadrunner Lane, Destrehan, LA 70047. Students involved will act out a fatal crash scene scenario in front of their peers, allowing the students to see first-hand how drinking and driving affects everyone involved. The Mock Crash will emphasize the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving, the usage of seat belts and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal crash occurs in reality. Following the Mock Crash, the students will participate in a Mock Trial outlining the legal ramifications of poor decision making, including fines and jail sentences. Numerous state and local agencies will be providing their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Louisiana State Police, St. Charles Fire and EMS Departments, St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, Ochsner Hospital, St. Charles District Attorney’s Office, Judge Laura Lemmon, Millet-Guidry Funeral Home and Tony’s Towing will also participate in the scenario. Personnel from each agency will be available to answer all of the student’s questions at the conclusion of the event. This education by participating agencies is an effort to reduce the number of underage DWI’s, serious injury crashes and fatal crashes.
