Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B – NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 11, 2011 Belle Chase Woman Arrested for Cashing Fraudulent Money Orders Troop B: This morning, Louisiana State Police troopers assigned to the Bureau of Investigations arrested Tanya McGrath (W/F, age 33) of Belle Chase, LA, for Monetary Instrument Abuse and Theft Over $500.00. The investigation began in January 2011 after detectives received information regarding several counterfeit money orders totaling $4,000.000 that were cashed at the Star Gas Station on Belle Chase Highway in Gretna, LA. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for McGrath and during the arrest, they also recovered additional counterfeit money orders that had not yet been cashed. The investigation revealed that McGrath was receiving the counterfeit money orders through the mail with instructions to send a percentage of the illegal monies obtained to Haiti via Western Union. McGrath was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. McGrath was solicited through her email account with instructions on how to receive and cash the money orders and how to send the money to international locations.
