Fatal Crash on I-10 Claims Life of Kenner Woman

Troop B: On Monday, March 7, 2011 at approximately 11:30 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated an injury crash on I-10 west near Veterans Boulevard. Investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Cory Mouret (W/F, age 24) of Kenner, LA, was traveling on I-10 west approaching Veterans Boulevard and, for unknown reasons, ran off the roadway to the left striking a concrete bridge support with the passenger side of the vehicle. Mouret was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Monte Carlo. She was transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital, Level 1 Trauma Center with severe injuries. Mauret later died at the hospital.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash and toxicology results are pending an autopsy.

This is the fifth fatal crash that Troop B Troopers have investigated since the beginning of the year. Troopers, all too often, investigate crashes where occupants are not properly restrained. Unrestrained occupants have a greater chance of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Seat belt use is on the rise throughout the state, but there is still a long way to go before we see full compliance with the seat belt law. Troopers would like to remind everyone who rides in a vehicle to buckle up every time they get into the vehicle. Louisiana law requires ALL occupants, regardless of seating position, to buckle up EVERY time they are in a vehicle on a public roadway. Just the few seconds it takes to buckle a seat belt can mean the difference between life and death.

In an effort to continue to increase seat belt use throughout the state, Troopers will continue the practice of combining an aggressive educational program with strict enforcement of the law. Several educational programs provided by Louisiana State Police are available to the public throughout the state. Contact your local Troop PIO to discuss the various programs that State Police has to offer.

BUCKLE UP…SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!
