| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 8, 2011 Fatal Crash on I-10 Claims Life of Kenner Woman Troop B: On Monday, March 7, 2011 at approximately 11:30 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated an injury crash on I-10 west near Veterans Boulevard. Investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Cory Mouret (W/F, age 24) of Kenner, LA, was traveling on I-10 west approaching Veterans Boulevard and, for unknown reasons, ran off the roadway to the left striking a concrete bridge support with the passenger side of the vehicle. Mouret was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Monte Carlo. She was transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital, Level 1 Trauma Center with severe injuries. Mauret later died at the hospital. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash and toxicology results are pending an autopsy. This is the fifth fatal crash that Troop B Troopers have investigated since the beginning of the year. Troopers, all too often, investigate crashes where occupants are not properly restrained. Unrestrained occupants have a greater chance of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Seat belt use is on the rise throughout the state, but there is still a long way to go before we see full compliance with the seat belt law. Troopers would like to remind everyone who rides in a vehicle to buckle up every time they get into the vehicle. Louisiana law requires ALL occupants, regardless of seating position, to buckle up EVERY time they are in a vehicle on a public roadway. Just the few seconds it takes to buckle a seat belt can mean the difference between life and death. | |||
