TROOP A NEWS RELEASE

November 1, 2014
Several Injured in Livingston Parish ATV “Hayride” Crash

Walker Shortly before 9:00 pm on October 31, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle injury crash involving an ATV that occurred on LA Hwy 1024 (Cane Market Rd.) west of LA Hwy 447 (Walker Rd. North) in Livingston Parish. The crash resulted in several minor injuries of juveniles and moderate injuries to one adult.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 37 year old Ashley Posey of Denham Springs was driving a 2009 Honda ATV (pulling a utility trailer) westbound on LA Hwy 1024. At the same time, 33 year old Victoria Farr of Denham Springs was also driving westbound on LA Hwy 1024 in a 2013 Mazda CX-5. The trailer being pulled by the ATV did not have proper lighting and contained approximately twenty juvenile passengers. As the ATV pulling the trailer traveled westbound on LA Hwy 1024 the Mazda driven by Farr struck the rear of the trailer.

An adult male passenger riding on the front utility rack of the ATV sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported via Air-Med from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Eleven of the twenty children were transported from the scene to local hospitals with minor injuries. The driver of the ATV (Posey) was issued citations for Off-road vehicles; authorization for use on the shoulders of certain public roads and highways and Tail lamps. The driver of the Mazda (Farr) was cited for Safety belt use and Child passenger restraint system.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued, and always remain buckled up regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Always obey all traffic control devices and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
