Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 27, 2011 One Killed, Two Injured in Early Morning Metairie Crash Troop B - This morning, shortly before 3:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatality crash on the Clearview Parkway north exit ramp at I-10 west. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Nissan Frontier, driven by Omar I. Pena (H/M, age 23) of Kenner, LA, was traveling on I-10 west at a high rate of speed. Pena exited at Clearview Parkway and failed to negotiate the curve on the ramp and the vehicle ran off the road to the left, rotating clockwise and sliding over 150 feet. The driver’s door then struck a concrete support column. Pena was pronounced dead on the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle also sustained injuries. Tim Barcenas, (W/M, age 22) of Kenner, LA, was transported to the LSU Interim Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center with critical injuries and Aldair Antonio Cobalvarro, (H/M, age 16) of Metairie, LA, was transported to East Jefferson Hospital with moderate injuries. Speed is a factor in the crash and none of the occupants in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. Driver impairment is suspected and toxicology results are pending an autopsy.
