TROOP A NEWS RELEASE November 2, 2014 Unrestrained Independence Woman Killed in Single Vehicle Crash Denham Springs – Shortly before 5:45 am on November 2, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 1024 (Cane Market Rd.) east of LA Hwy 16 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 42 year old Stephanie A. Prattini of Independence. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Prattini was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan eastbound on LA Hwy 1024. For unknown reasons the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. Prattini overcorrected causing the vehicle to then run off the roadway to the left. Upon doing so the Dodge entered a ditch, struck a culvert and overturned. Prattini was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Prattini and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
