TROOP A NEWS RELEASE

November 12, 2014
Unrestrained Geismar Man Killed in Early Morning Crash

Prairieville At approximately 2:30 am on November 12, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 61 north of LA Hwy 73 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 27 year old Cody B. Viator of Geismar.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Viator was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry southbound on US Hwy 61. For unknown reasons the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right into a ditch and struck a culvert. Upon doing so the Camry became airborne, re-entered the roadway and began to flip.

Viator was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries as a result. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Viator and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a motor vehicle crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
