TROOP B NEWS RELEASE September 7, 2013 Reckless Operation Suspected in Jefferson Parish Fatal Crash Jefferson Parish, LA – Yesterday evening shortly after 7:00pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a two vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle on the U.S. 90B/West Bank Expressway. The crash took place at the intersection of U.S. 90B and Drake Avenue and took the life of the 21 year old motorcyclist Dylan Smith of Westwego, LA. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Smith was riding a 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle in the left westbound lane of U.S. 90B when he accelerated at a high rate of speed. As Smith continued westbound operating the motorcycle in a reckless manner, a 2009 Toyota Tundra was traveling north on Drake Ave. attempting to cross the westbound lanes of U.S. 90B. The Kawasaki subsequently impacted the right side of the Toyota pickup ejecting Smith from the bike. Smith sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time pending the results of a toxicology exam. The driver of the Toyota Tundra, Esaw Frazier (B/M age 59) of Marrero, LA, was properly restrained and received no injuries in the crash. Driver impairment is not suspected for Frazier. While the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge motorists to refrain from dangerous driving activities such as driving recklessly or while impaired and/or distracted. Every day across our communities, drivers and passengers suffer the consequences of poor choices made while behind the wheel. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
