TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE September 3, 2013 Man Killed in Crash on Clearveiw Parkway Today, at approximately 11:25 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 3152 (Clearview Parkway) at the south I-10 Service Road. Paul Burke, (W/M, age 85) of Jefferson, LA, was a passenger in a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country and due to injuries he sustained, he was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center and later pronounced dead. Preliminary investigation revealed that Jean Burke, (W/F, age 84) of Jefferson, LA, was driving the Chrysler east on the south I-10 Service Road, approaching LA 3152. A 2006 Freightliner tractor/trailer, driven by Matthew Mitchell (B/M, age 54) of Harvey, LA, was traveling south on LA 3152 in the center lane. The Chrysler entered a curve to the left, and for unknown reasons, traveled off the road to the right and entered the southbound lanes of LA 3152. The driver’s side of the Chrysler struck the passenger side of the trailer causing the Chrysler to run off the road to the right where it came to rest. Paul Burke was seated on the front passenger side of the vehicle in a wheelchair that was not tethered or anchored to the vehicle. Jean Burke was transported to the Level 1 Trauma Center with critical injuries. Impairment is not suspected as a factor of the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road, and always obey all traffic control devices. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
