TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE

August 18, 2013
Impairment and Lack of Seat Belt Usage Factors in Fatal Crash

Early this morning, at approximately 2:30 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash in Plaquemines Parish on LA 23. The crash killed Wynette L. Williamson (B/F, age 43) of Belle Chasse, LA, who was a passenger in the one vehicle crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jeremy Williamson (B/M, age 21) of Belle Chasse, LA, was driving a 2008 Dodge Charger on LA 23 north approaching LA 11. For unknown reasons, the Dodge traveled off the road to the right and began to overturn. All occupants of the vehicle were ejected. Wynette Williamson was pronounced dead on the scene. Jeremy Williamson and another passenger, James Brown Jr. (B/M, age 23) of Port Sulphur, LA, were transported the Interim LSU Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center with moderate injuries.

Speed and impairment are suspected as factors of the crash. Blood was taken from Jeremy Williamson and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab will conduct the toxicology tests. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Troopers continue to see impairment related crashes, where the occupants are not properly restrained. Making these choices can be a deadly combination. Louisiana law requires all occupants to be properly buckled. Correctly wearing a seat belt can greatly decrease your chances of death or serious injury. The consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs remain the same. Making poor decisions in a vehicle leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
Drive Sober and Buckle Up!
