Louisiana State Police Recognizes Officers Who Went Above and Beyond the Call of Duty to Save Lives

Last night, at approximately 5:00 PM, Louisiana State Trooper G. Bethea was on his way home after his tour of duty. Trooper Bethea was traveling on I-10 east, crossing the highrise bridge, and observed a juvenile walking on the bridge. Trooper Bethea stopped and attempted to speak to the juvenile, who became agitated and began to climb over the side of the bridge. Trooper Bethea was able to grab the juvenile and restrain him. It was later learned that the juvenile was a run away and had threatened suicide to numerous individuals. The juvenile was taken to a local facility for evaluation. Trooper Bethea’s actions saved the juvenile’s life.

This afternoon at approximately 12:30 PM, two Department of Public Safety Officers, Sergeant D. Kramer and Officer C. Fletcher, were working at US 90B and Terry Parkway. They were approached by an individual who stated that her father was not breathing and was sitting in the front seat of her car. Both DPS Officers rendered aid and began CPR on the unresponsive man. The man was then taken by EMS to a local facility in stable condition. Sergeant Kramer and Officer Fletcher saved the man’s life by providing emergent life saving measures.

“Each day our Troopers and DPS officers are tasked with meeting the challenges of ensuring public safety throughout our state”, said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “In achieving that goal, they know that they will be called upon in unique situations to serve the public. In these two instances, the officers answered that calling to save the lives of two individuals that would not be with us if not for the officers’ quick and decisive actions. I could not be prouder of these officers for their life-saving responses.”
