Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Crash in St. Charles Parish Claims Life of Reserve, LA Man Troop B – This morning, shortly before 3:00 AM, Louisiana State Police responded to a fatal crash in St. Charles Parish on US 61 near Apple Street. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet pick-up, believed to be driven by Manuel Castro (O/M, age 32) of Livingston, LA, was traveling north in the south travel lanes of US 61, north of Apple Street. A 1999 Infinity Q45, driven by Jeremy Fleming (B/M, age 25) of Reserve, LA, was traveling south on US 61 in the left lane. The Chevrolet struck the Infinity head-on and Jeremy Fleming was pronounced dead on the crash scene. A passenger in the Infinity, Marcus Fleming (B/M, age 25) of Garyville, LA, was transported to Ochsner Hospital with moderate injuries. Castro was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with moderate injuries. Due to Castro’s statements at the scene, it is unknown at this time if Castro was driving the Chevrolet. However, the Chevrolet will be processed for DNA evidence by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Blood was obtained from Castro and a toxicology analysis is pending. The crash remains under investigation. Criminal charges are also pending the outcome of the investigation. Seat belts were not used by anyone in this crash. The single most effective thing you can do to increase your chances of surviving a violent crash is to buckle up. The primary function of a seat belt is to prevent ejection and to spread the forces of a crash over a wider part of the body to reduce injuries and fatalities. Last year, over 60% of fatal crashes across the state involved unrestrained drivers and occupants. Troopers strongly urge motorists to buckle up each and every time they get into a vehicle. State law requires ALL occupants to be properly restrained, regardless of seating position. Buckle Up!! Every Time!! Every Ride!! Contact Information: Trooper Melissa Matey | |||
