Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Fatal Crash in St. Charles Parish Caused by Speeding Troop B – This afternoon, at approximately 2:00PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on US 90 west at Scott Lane in St. Charles Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Toyota pick-up, driven by Louis Langlinais III (W/M, age 45) of New Iberia, LA, was traveling on US 90 west near Scott Lane at a high rate of speed. As the Toyota was exiting a right curve the vehicle ran off the road to the right. Langlinais overcorrected the vehicle, causing the Toyota to spin. The vehicle struck a raised driveway, flipped several times and Langlinais (who was not wearing a seatbelt) was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to the LSU Interim Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center with severe injuries. A passenger, Crystal Hardy (W/F, age 39) of Youngsville, LA, was properly restrained and pronounced dead on the scene. Driver impairment is unknown and toxicology results are pending. Speed is suspected as a contributing factor and the crash remains under investigation. Last year, over 60% of fatal crashes across the state involved unrestrained drivers and occupants and nationally, one third of fatal crashes are caused by speeding. Troopers strongly urge motorists to buckle up each and every time they get into a vehicle. State law requires ALL occupants to be properly restrained, regardless of seating position. Troopers witness firsthand the devastating effects in motor vehicle crashes caused by speeding. Please be a responsible driver, obey speed limits, drive sober, buckle up and avoid distractions.
