Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Bicyclist Killed in Crash on US 61 Troop B – Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash last night at approximately 11:50 PM on US 61 east at Marathon Road in Reserve, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Cadillac STS, driven by Roosevelt Thompson (B/M, age 46) of Slidell, LA was traveling east on US 61 in the left lane. A bicycle, ridden by Bruce Edwards (B/M, age 53) of Reserve, LA, was traveling south on Marathon Road crossing US 61 east. The left front corner of the Cadillac struck the bicycle, ejecting Edwards who was pronounced dead on the scene. Thompson submitted to a breathalyzer test which revealed no detectable alcohol in his system. Speed is not suspected as a factor. The crash remains under investigation. Bicyclists should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it is safe to do so.
