Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Garyville Man Killed in Crash in St. John the Baptist Parish Troop B – This morning, shortly after 6:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a fatality crash on LA 44 near West 22nd Street in Reserve, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Toyota Camry, driven by Morris Lee Jr. (B/M, age 69) of Garyville, LA, was traveling east on LA 44 and struck a vehicle in the rear. The crash forced the Toyota into the westbound lane of LA 44 facing east, where it came to rest. As Lee Jr. was exiting the Toyota, it was hit by a 1998 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by Cedric Jackson (B/M, age 31) of Lutcher, LA, that was traveling west on LA 44. Due to the force of the crash, the Toyota was pushed backward and it struck Lee Jr. Both Lee Jr. and Jackson were transported to River Parishes Hospital. Lee Jr. later died at the hospital and Jackson suffered moderate injuries. Driver impairment is not suspected however, toxicology results are pending. Jackson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. While the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain attentive while driving and refrain from hazardous activities such as aggressive, impaired, and/or distracted driving. Making poor decisions in a vehicle leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Paying attention makes it possible to see, recognize and avoid hazards on the road. 100% of motor vehicle crashes are preventable and Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to drive safely every time they are behind the wheel.
